Created Issue: WHS YouTube Downloader throwing an error [9892]

I have used this great tool for sometime but recently it has stopped working. When I enter a YouTube URL and press "Load Formats", the page returns this error string:

I have uninstalled the program, downloaded your latest version 1.0.0b and installed it with no fix.

Seems youtube may have broken something. I've used this successfully hundreds of times, but recently it's stopped working with the following error.

It seems you know the name of the video as you show it during the download progress screen.

Can you use that for the file name of the video instead of the number? I'm spending alot of time renaming the files. I wouldn't mind if you ran it though a legitimate character scrubber so that it wouldn't try to make files with illegal names. Some clue about what the video is from the name would be infinitely better than just a number.

Rated 1 Stars (out of 5) - installed program - did not show up in dashboard. Looked for a program icon via the start button - wasn't there either. As this is an add-in for WHS2011 it should show up in dashboard after it's installed and after dashboard is restarted. Neither worked. Fail. P.S. It is extremely difficult to post comments - what with having to create a codeplex account, do the captcha, click the email, etc

My name is Gunnar Peipman and I am IIS/ASP.NET MVP from Estonia. This is my one-man project and I work on it after my daily job is done.
Is WHS Dashboard also supported by downloader?
Currently WHS dashboard is not supported and I don’t have plans to support it over next few releases. You can do everything possible through WHS web interface and I think it’s better because you can also start downloads when you are not at your home network.
Downloader is not suddenly able to download videos from YouTube. What’s wrong?
Sometimes Google changes video download links in YouTube. It doesn’t happen very often but when it happens I have to change URL-s in code too and release new build. There is currently no good way how to react to these changes but I will try to come out with something.
How can I save videos as AVI, MPG, WMV?
WHS YouTube Downloader offers exactly the same formats that Google is able to serve. If you really need videos in some other format then please use some free or commercial video converter. There are many of these available in internet.
Can I download also big videos like concerts in full HD?
Yes, you can. I have tested the plug-in with videos of different size and everything seems to work this far.
Where are my videos saved?
Your videos are saved to shared media folder of WHS. You can see your shared media folders using WHS Dashboard by example. The same folders are shown on WHS YouTube Downloader folder selection dropdown. I have currently no plans to support other folders. Using shared media folders means that Windows Search indexes your videos quickly and they appear to all your WHS media sources automagically.

You can use project discussions to report bugs. With bug report please describe your technical environment and bug symptoms. Be specific and provide me the details you know (really, I cannot read your mind). Be ready to answer my questions.
How are versions organized?
Minor versions that end with even number are considered as main releases and minor versions with odd number in end are considered as service releases. 1.0 adds new features, 1.1 is service release etc. Service releases contain bug fixes, solve issues and provide workarounds to problems.

How to uninstall manually

Although installer should work fine when installing or uninstalling WHS YouTube Downloader there is still small chance to face the problems. This page gives you step by step guide about manual removal process of software. Normally you should uninstall WHS YouTube Downloader from Control Panel.

Open Services and stop WHS YouTube Downloader service
Open Windows Explorer and move to folder C:\Program Files\Window Server\Bin\
Remove the following files:
- Gpf.Whs.YouTubeDownloader.Service.exe
- Gpf.Whs.YouTubeDownloader.Service.exe.config
- Gpf.Whs.YouTubeDownloader.CommSrv.dll
Move to folder C:\Program Files\Windows Server\Bin\WebApps\RemoteAccess\Bin
Remove file Gpf.Whs.YouTubeDownloader.AddIn.dll
Move to folder C:\Program Files\Windows Server\Bin\WebApps\RemoteAccess\AddIns
Remove subfolder YouTubeDownloader
Open command prompt
Type command iisreset and press Enter
Wait while web server is restarted

If you still have problems or files cannot be deleted then restart your server.

First beta of WHS YouTube Downloader. All first version functionality is implemented and this is the version I use to test and stabilise the next release. NB! Use this version only if you know about computers more than average user :)

downloader is WHS 2011 remote web site add-in
download videos from you tube
choose format of video
select shared media folder where files are saved
monitor download process through remote web site
downloads are managed by background service (you don't have to keep browser open and wait for downloads to be completed)

Technical requirements

Before installing WHS YouTube Downloader make sure you have the following requirements filled:

you have Windows Home Server 2011 installed with latest service packs and updates,
Windows Home Server 2011 works fine and has no problems,
you have administrator access to your home server (direct access or over Remote Desktop),
you have shared media libraries configured correctly,
your home server has port 8732 free (there is no programs and services that use this port).
